Starting high school is an exciting time, and we know that students and parents may have many questions about academics, support services, extracurricular activities, and school policies. To help ease the transition, we’ve compiled a list of Frequently Asked Questions – Freshman Edition to provide guidance on key topics such as academic support, graduation requirements, student safety, and opportunities to get involved.

  • There are many people at Catalina Foothills High School who can help your student navigate the transition to high school and ensure a successful experience.

    • The freshman counselor can assist with questions about scheduling, courses, and academic plans.
    • Teachers are available to answer questions and meet with students or parents regarding academic concerns. The staff directory is available here on the school website, organized by department.
    • Link Crew, a dedicated freshman transition program, helps welcome and support freshmen throughout their first year. This program is built on the belief that students can help students succeed. Juniors and seniors serve as trained Link Crew Leaders, guiding freshmen through the challenges of high school, providing mentorship, and fostering a positive school culture.

    Studies show that students who have a positive freshman year experience are far more likely to succeed in high school. Link Crew provides structured support and peer mentorship, helping freshmen feel comfortable and connected while developing key academic and social skills. Additionally, the program promotes school safety and anti-bullying education, reinforcing a supportive environment where students know they are valued.

  • Graduation requirements and a downloadable Four Year Academic Plan are available through the counseling department and can be found on the school website under “academics.” Course grades are determined by the individual classroom teachers using either percentage or rubric-based assessment as established by the different departments. Your son/daughter’s teachers can help you with the grading structures of their classes.

  • Many tools are available to help you work with your son/daughter. In addition to the teacher websites and information provided there, you can access your son/daughter’s homework and assignments using their Gmail & Google Docs login. Synergy is the system provided to help you access your student’s grades and attendance information online, and the teachers are available to answer questions and provide assistance.

  • At Catalina Foothills High School, student safety is our top priority. Our administrative team actively works with staff to implement safety measures and address any concerns.

    To support a safe learning environment, our student handbook and planners outline expectations for appropriate behavior on campus. Every student receives these at the start of the school year. Additionally, each grade-level administrator is available to discuss safety or discipline concerns as needed.

  • The students and staff of Catalina Foothills High School have worked very hard to establish an inviting atmosphere at our school. There are a number of clubs, sports, and competitive activities available for students looking for more from their high school experience. The athletic director can be contacted regarding sports schedules, eligibility, and medical forms required to participate in athletics at Catalina Foothills. In addition, there is a club fair held each fall to promote the numerous student-led organizations available on campus.

  • Catalina Foothills High School prides itself on the academic rigor we provide for our students. In concert with the challenges provided, our teachers and staff provide numerous tools to help our students to be successful. Academic assistance is available before and after school throughout the week. In addition, our National Honor Society students provide peer tutoring is available in the “NEST” before, during, and after school hours.
